A sad day...

Our 1980 300TD wagon was struck down yesterday in a brief yet effective moment of motorist stupidity.

As I was leaving work, I was stopped at a traffic light waiting for the light to change. Another motorist ran the red light across the intersection from me and was struck midway across by another car. It then 180'd and collided with the front of the wagon, smashing up that gorgeous w123 face.

I'm mostly okay, with a very stiff and sore neck, back, and right knee.

This is, unfortunately, the final saga for the wagon, and one which I will document here on this website as it plays out. Hopefully, the aftermath will progress smoothly. Stay tuned!

Dang! Been hoping to get an update on your cars, but NOT like this!

Glad you're okay!

Any plans for the car? Hate to see this happen when I would give my eye teeth to have a W123 Wagon.

I'm trying not to form any plans until I see what direction this is going to go with the insurance company or companies involved.

Hmmm...so what's the verdict of the future for this car?

Still unknown. The other person's insurance came out to look at the car this past Thursday, but I have not received any word regarding valuing, total v/s repair, or anything. I'm still waiting to hear back from the other company's adjuster.

This site's intentions are to detail the trials and tribulations of ownership and maintenance of our several Mercedes Benz diesel-engined automobiles - more specifically, the OM61x series engines as found in the w123 and w116 chassis. What started off as a hobby with a lone 240D has now turned into, well, an addiction of sorts. All of the cars we now own are Mercedes. Our newest car is 25 years old, and our oldest is 34.

We've been active members - and sometimes contributors - to the online MB community since roughly late 2000. MBDiesel.net exists as part photoblog, part hobby, and part soapbox. Most of the time, I'll post photo series of the more common repair jobs for the beginner DIYers out there. Occasionally, I can't do that because it takes too short of a time to actually do the repair than it does to photograph it. Sometimes I may just use this site to rant about car-related topics. You'll just have to come back every now and again and find out.
